Why Screens Take This Kind of Damage Here

Coastal salt corrodes aluminum screen frames gradually over time, weakening the corners and joints. Santa Ana winds then put real physical stress on that already-weakened mesh and frame — which is why torn mesh, sagging corners, and bent frames tend to show up specifically after a windy stretch rather than gradually year-round.

Can a Damaged Screen Be Cleaned, or Does It Need Replacing?

It depends on condition, not just age. We assess each screen individually: mesh that’s intact with a square frame usually just needs proper cleaning — dry brush for light coastal dust, wet cleaning for bonded salt. Applying water to a screen that only needs dry cleaning tends to make the result worse. Where mesh is torn or a frame is bent or corroded past saving, cleaning won’t fix it, and replacement is the honest answer.
